Beautiful folding rocking chair made of what looks to be mahogany wood with a cane back and seat. This rocker folds down to a wonderful quarter moon shaped design which originated in 1868 by Adam Collignon to save space for the many who traveled across country in covered wagons. It has very few blemishes for its age and the cane is also in amazing condition but would advise for some repairs to the seat if it is going to be used on a regular basis. The back rest of the chair has 2 separate layers of cane one in front and one in the back which are framed by 4 pieces of wood, top, bottom and 2 side pieces at 15 ½ wide (including the stiles) and 20 ½ in length. There are 2 curved stiles at 40 in length that connect the back rest of the chair to 2 pivot points at the seat and then again with 2 more pivot points at the bottom front of the 29 long wood rockers.
The 2 stiles are also connected by 2 carved 13 ½ wide wood stretchers under the front of the seat of the chair. There is only one layer of cane on the seat that is also framed with 4 pieces of wood with the sides and front pieces being curved at 13 wide in the rear, 18 wide in the front and a total depth of 20. The 14 rear curved wood legs are connected to the seat at 2 pivot points, at the rear of the rockers at the pivot points and with one 13 carved wood stretcher under the rear of the chair.
